The Silicones Environmental, Health, and Safety Center (SEHSC), a sector group of the American Chemistry Council (ACC), participated in the Chemistry in Electronics & Semiconductors Expo & Reception alongside 13 other companies and organizations to educate Congressional staff and members about the important role chemistry plays in that industry and the challenges the industry faces in the current regulatory environment.

SEHSC Chemistry in Electronics & Semiconductors Expo & Reception

“The event highlighted the wide variety of silicone applications in electronics including their uses as a protective coating for semiconductors, sealants and adhesives for cables and cords, and an encapsulant in LED lights,” explained Alex Rinehart of Shin-Etsu Silicones of America and Chair of the SEHSC Regulatory and Public Affairs Committee.

Silicone technology lies at the heart of many devices that make life easier including smartphones, computers, wearable fitness trackers and cardio-monitoring devices, and sport watches. The global electronics market purchases 212,700 tons of silicone products each year.

During the showcase-style event, trade organizations and companies highlighted the importance of chemistries in making semiconductors and electronic products. The event was part of a series of ACC-organized expo-style receptions on Capitol Hill hosted with the Congressional Chemistry Caucus to help inform members of Congress and staff about the role of chemistry in our lives.
