WASHINGTON (July 1, 2021) - The U.S. House of Representatives moved forward on investing in our nation’s infrastructure by approving Congressman DeFazio’s (D-OR), the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation (INVEST) in America Act. In addition to providing $715 billion for physical infrastructure improvements, the legislation will reauthorize the Surface Transportation Act, which was set to expire at the end of September.

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) released the following statement regarding passage of the bill:

“The U.S. business of chemistry will be central to the rebuilding effort since we depend on and contribute to a stronger and better infrastructure. Today’s House vote underscores the clear need to approve a long-term reauthorization of the Surface Transportation Act and provide funding for much needed physical infrastructure improvements – both are critical to keeping U.S. manufacturing competitive.

“Just as importantly, the House approved several key provisions that we urge the Senate to adopt as part of their package, including the promotion of advanced construction materials, review of materials procurement and building out infrastructure for electric vehicles. We are committed to working with the Administration and leaders of both parties in Congress to modernize our nation’s aging infrastructure.”
